ARCHAEOLOGICAL LIBRARY

Due to modernization, the archaeological library is closed until further notice.

We apologize for the inconvenience!

The library's collection dates back to 1956. It currently holds over 14,000 volumes of books and 8,500 volumes of periodicals. The library acquired the majority of the private collection of the institution's founder, Prof. Kazimierz Michałowski. The collection primarily includes works related to studies of the cultures of Egypt, Nubia, and the Near East, as well as Cyprus, Greece, and Rome. Particularly valuable is the collection concerning archaeology, art, and religion of ancient Egypt and Nubia. In 2006, the library joined the Agreement of Scientific Libraries, through which a computer catalogue is being developed in the HORIZON system, and since 2009, it has been collaborating with the central NUKAT catalogue. 90% of the collection has been catalogued. The library also exchanges books and periodicals with numerous foreign institutions.
