New visual identity for IMOC PAS - the past meets the present!
We are delighted to present the new logo of the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures of the Polish Academy of Sciences!
The new visual identity is more than an aesthetic change. It is a graphic expression of the idea that guides the work of our Institute – bringing together research on the past with reflection on the contemporary world.
Two parts, one symbol, many perspectives. The past – the left side of the mark evokes what is ancient, marked by the passage of time and covered with patina. It refers to the heritage of bygone cultures, the material traces of their existence, and archaeological research.
The present – the right side is inspired by the pattern of traces on printed circuit boards. Its electronic, digital character symbolises the world of new technologies, social transformation, and the rapidly changing ways in which we live and think.
What connects these two worlds?
It is no coincidence that the two parts of the mark are separated by an asymmetrical line. While preserving the balance of the composition, it emphasises that the past and the present are not separate, closed worlds. They permeate and complement one another, allowing us to better understand the cultural, social, and religious processes taking place in Asia and Africa.
It is precisely at the meeting point of different eras, methods, and perspectives that the questions inspiring the research conducted at our Institute are born.

70 years of discovering and exploring the world!
The year 2026 is a special one for us – we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Institute!
To mark the occasion, until the end of the year, we will also be using a special jubilee logo, highlighting seven decades of scientific research, discoveries, and achievements of successive generations of scholars associated with our Institute.
A new mark – the same curiosity about the world. From the traces of the past to the challenges of the present!
